"The twenty-first century will be anything but business as usual.” --David Whyte
Mindfulness: attention on the present moment; an orientation toward one’s experiences in the present moment that is characterized by curiosity, openness, and acceptance.
This retreat is an exploration for leaders who seek more than success, money, or power. It is for leaders who are ready to slow down and connect their inner self with their outer work.
Who Should Attend
Leaders in a variety of work and volunteer settings: “C” level
executives, nonprofit Executive Directors, small business owners, managers, supervisors, Human Resource professionals, Organizational Development consultants, Board members, and others interested in exploring new ways of being at work.
Purpose
The retreat is an opportunity to explore the power of mindfulness -- moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness -- for expanding our ability to learn and grow, as individuals and as leaders. All activities and experiences are aimed at cultivating deep calm and awareness through mindfulness practices.
The benefits of mindfulness include increased self-awareness, self-trust, and self-acceptance; an enhanced appreciation of life; calm in the face of difficulties; more fluid adaptation to change; development of more effective coping strategies; decreases in a variety of stress-related
physical symptoms, including chronic pain; significant decreases in anxiety and depression; improved concentration and creativity; and improved immune system functioning.

Recommended Reading on Mindful Leadership
Awake at Work by Michael Carroll
When we think of work, we often think of drudgery, frustration, and stress. For too many of us, work is the last place in our lives we expect to experience satisfaction, fulfillment, or spiritual growth. In this unique book, Michael Carroll—a meditation teacher, executive coach, and corporate director—shares wisdom on how to transform the common hassles and anxieties of the workplace into valuable opportunities for heightened wisdom and enhanced effectiveness.
Presence: Human Purpose and The Field of the Future by Peter Senge, Otto Scharmer, Joseph Jaworski, and Betty Sue Flowers
A unique book that catalogs conversations among the four authors as they engage in a penetrating exploration of the human condition. The group’s major theme is that our way of thinking is limited and faulty. They encourage thinking in wholes rather than in fragmented parts. They recommend silent introspection and reflection.
Mindfulness and Meaningful Work: Explorations in Right Livelihood by Ernest Callenbach
A classic, providing a wealth of resources for investigating the challenge of integrating work with spiritual practice. It contains thirty-seven essays by some of the leading thinkers and activists of our time, helping us to find work that is meaningful, life-affirming, and non-exploitive.
